Baby boomers(団塊世代)

Dear friends
Typhoon #18 had hit the western Japan and eastern Japan on Sep.16th.
Hoping everythng's has gone okay for everyone.
Speaking of Sep.16th,it was the Respect-for-Senior-Citizens Day(officially called this way),which was called the aged peoples day in the past. Most of the baby boomers have reached at the age of 65.(We call it,Dan-Kai-Sedai) and it was reported those over the age of 65 years old had occupied 24% of the entire Japanese population. One of 4 Japanese citizens would be over 65 years old in this society now. Specifically, this baby boomers seem to be contributing so much to the increase of the silver population in Japan.

Some of you in this community are older than this baby boomers. I am getting closer to this generation soon. I believe there will be both benefits and disadvantages to exceed the age of 65. Mostl likely, those peoples will be eligible for getting a pension
from the age of 65,for example. This would be one of the benefits.
Wondering what kinds of disadvantages we will be facing,on the other hand?!
Dear members, what sort of expectation you have currently or you will have in the future after you are reaching this generation? Any comments would be welcome.

Dear Nobu san
Thanks for your comment on this topic.
Yes,I know what you meant in there. I agree it totally depends on
each individuals after reitrement age.I have not reached to the age of 65,but
I have been retired person for past 2 years and some months, already.
When I was retired, many of our colleagues have chosen the different course of lifes. Some preferred to live his life without any jobs and totally free. Some has chosen being back to his university in order for him to obtain some degree such as M.B.A. I guess,30~40% of my classmates have still chosen to restart working as the annual contractor with or without any good salary. They may be primarily 2 reasons to keep working like that. One is to keep his tension as a worker as ever and 2nd reasons may be to maintain his mental and physical health better although he may be able to get less money than he used to do. It also depends on each individuals.JR

I am over 65 years old and have been getting a pension.
As I haven't worked before, my pension is a very small amount.
Fortunately I do't need to rely on the pension at all.
So, it very much depends on a personal situation, as you've understood.

Speaking of advantages for those over 65, admission fees of many facilities for recreation or public institutions become cheaper. Moreover, in some cities when you become over 70, you can gain very much reduced annual fare tickets of public transportations. As MOMOKO-san mentioned, this is a so-called "silver discount".
It is very nice!!

Except such advantages are applied to those who are over 65, nothing is changed in personal level. If you have spent your life actively, then the same lifestyle continues as it were. It is really ridiculous talking about various kinds of senior individuals under one head, I think.

JR
