Where is Syria?

Over the issue that the Assad regime allegedly used chemical weapons, Obama administration is believed to attack Syria with France in the near future. Mass media reported that because Prime Minister Cameron failed to persuade the parliament to admit the military action, the UK won’t join the action. About other countries, Turk, South Arabia, and Israel will cooperate with the US and France by permitting missiles and fighter planes to pass their aerial territory. US officials said that when Assad forces carried out an air raid near Damascas, they used bombs charged with poison gas killing more than 1,300.Obama administration worries that if it did not act against the use of chemical weapons, other rogue countries like North Korea would begin to use them too. The administration intends to sanction Syria so that it won’t use them again. In general, Japanese newspapers are critical to attack on Syria saying its legitimacy and validity are almost none. There are two points they insist on. First of all, which side, Assad regime or dissident groups, used chemical weapons is not clear. Secondly, they wonder if military attack without UN agreement is passable. In the past, UN often showed how useless it was when it had to cope with a problem which could cause competing interests among the permanent council members. This time, Russia, who has been on good terms with Syria for a long time, is expected to veto the proposal if the resolution on attack on Syria is submitted in UN. Also China will veto too.

And when the US waged war against Iraq, the reason was that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction. After the war, an inspection team delegated from the US searched for them, but could not find. You might doubt about the authenticity of evidence for use of chemical weapons the US presented. The US government does not seem to have perfect evidence. I think they obtained various kinds of information, deliberated them from many angles, and inferred the use.
In Syria, since 2011, anti-government movements and armed clashes between the government forces and rebel groups have been under way. Until now, the death toll is about 110,000. Its scale is the same as that of Tokyo air raid. Syrian civilians must be experiencing massacres of their family, friends in daily basis. They are surely fed up with the conflict. In order to stop it, even if the use of chemical weapons were groundless, the US military intervention would be welcome.

Syria is a far-away country to Japanese people. They may not be able to feel the on-going difficulty Syrians are suffering from as a real war. Their onlooker-attitude may lead to such cool a criticism to the military intervention.

The Free Syrian Army and Islamist rebels backed by al-Qaeda had fought together against the Assad government forces. But some time ago, the Free Syrian Army denounced the rebels announcing they are disturbing the anti-government fights. A serious confrontation was born between them.
When a military intervention by US on the conflict was close, an US official said that the US did not intend to side with any side of the fighting forces, just sanction the Assad side because it exceeded a red line.

Mr. TED Good morning ! Thank you your response.
I never been Syria, I have been Egypt and Turkey.
The civil war is not understandable, because US won’t support Syria government,
Syria government was supported by Russia, Iran and Hisbora.
Anti-government was supported by USA France Turkey Saudi Arabia、Iraq and Al-quada. USA has a dilemma to fight againsdt Al-quada in Afghanistan, to cooperate with Al-quada in Syria.

Kaz-yk-san, you are interested in Syria. Have you ever been to Syria? As you mentioned, Syrian crisis is changing the situation. Syria is trying to ratify the treaty prohibiting chemical weapons. CNN reported on September 21 2013 that the reports listing its stock of chemical weapons Syria submitted to the world’s chemical weapons watchdog were more complete than US officials had expected. The other day President Assad flatly denied the use of chemical weapons. The reports can not be contradictory with the declaration. I suspect he would want to mislead inspectors to investigate arsenal irrelevant to the use.

The chemical weapon issue in Syria came to new stage.
Current government Syria said: we appreciate Russian effort to solve this issue.
We are going to sigh on the treaty of prohibition of chemical weapons
The investigator of the united nation sent a report to the member in Security Council:
We could confirmed the number of victims in Damascus, but could not confirmed those bombing where came from government side or opposite side.
Syria has begun detailing its chemical weapons arsenal. There is a doubt,
Is there another stock to hide?
The US intelligence community has continued to use satellite imaginary, intercepts and human sourced on the ground inside Syria to develop its own picture.
